Spray Guns: Which One Suits Your Painting Job
A spray gun gives a smooth, even finish that a brush or roller cannot match, and it covers gates, grilles, doors, furniture and walls in a fraction of the time.
- Electric spray guns (450–550 W) plug straight into normal 240 V power and are the simplest choice for gates, furniture and household painting. The 550 W model handles thicker paint and carries the motor in a shoulder unit, so only the light gun is in your hand.
- Cordless spray guns (20 V) work where there is no power: site work, farm gates and outdoor jobs.
- Air spray guns run on an air compressor. Garages, panel beaters and furniture workshops choose them for the finest finish on vehicles and joinery.
For a clean finish: thin the paint to the maker's ratio and strain it, then test on a scrap board. Hold the gun about 20 cm from the surface, keep it moving, and overlap each pass by half. Flush the gun with the right thinner immediately after use, or the nozzle blocks.
Wear a respirator mask, goggles and gloves, and spray in a well-ventilated place away from open flames.
